The economic situation on the wine market is very tense and the situation of the steep slopes in the district of Ludwigsburg is precarious. The district of Ludwigsburg will support the affected municipalities and winegrowers in the district. This has now been reported on in the Committee for Environment and Technology and a comprehensive concept of measures has been presented.
"There is no more time to lose and we must do everything in our power to save the steep slopes," says District Administrator Dietmar Allgaier. All those affected are under increasing pressure due to the difficult situation, he continued. The municipalities, cooperatives and winegrowers are very interested in support from the district and the development of comprehensive, joint measures.
Measures for the preservation of steep slopes presented
In its concept of measures, the district outlines possible subsidies, but also their legal limits. The concept includes facilitations for communal hospitality options with the aim of making the steep slopes a tangible experience and strengthening tourism. A steep slope wine is intended to provide additional support for winegrowers and alternative planting and maintenance measures are intended to counteract the deterioration of the valuable dry stone walls. The action plan also reports on current legal developments.
The district administration office has also invited the mayors concerned and other people involved with the steep slopes to an information event. Those present will receive information about the contents of the bill and the current status. "The situation of the steep slopes and the situation of the winegrowers is difficult in all regions. There is a lack of new blood and costs have risen in all areas," explains Allgaier. In addition, some grape varieties need to be adapted to climate change. The social requirements for sustainable and ecological viticulture also present challenges. Together, however, we can work on a sustainable solution.
