On behalf of Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier, District Administrator Allgaier presented Günter Hofmann with the Federal Cross of Merit. With 30 years on the local council and on the board of the Tamm gymnastics club, Hofmann has shown more than clearly that he is committed to his home town and makes a difference locally. "Civic engagement holds our society together. It primarily takes place at a local level. Anyone who gets involved builds up a bond and trust with the local people and automatically feels at home as a result," said Allgaier.
The many years of continuity on the municipal council show that Hofmann enjoys the trust and high esteem of the people of Tamm. "You see your role on the municipal council as a representative of the people and try to involve everyone by being close to the people and engaging in dialogue," emphasized Allgaier in his laudatory speech. Hofmann was also concerned with "social and demographic change as a benchmark for your actions at municipal level" in the "Tamm Liveable List", which Hofmann co-founded in 2009. Tamm has undergone considerable development over the past 30 years: The population has increased from 8,000 to 12,900, numerous urban development projects have been implemented and Hofmann was also instrumental in the relaunch of the Tamm daycare concept. "You have succeeded in improving the quality of life and living conditions for many of Tamm's citizens over the years," said the district administrator, summarizing Hofmann's work in local politics.
Hofmann also rendered outstanding services to the partnership with the municipality of Althofen in Carinthia and actively promoted it. In addition to socializing, sport and exercise were always important to Günter Hofmann: In the community's largest club in terms of members, TV Tamm, Hofmann worked hard for children and young people as the long-standing 2nd and, for several years, interim 1st chairman. He personally checked the progress of the construction of the new sports hall. It was largely thanks to his organizational skills that the karate department was incorporated into the gymnastics club and gave the club supra-regional significance with major events. "You lend a hand exactly where someone is needed," said the district administrator. "I am glad that there are such committed and energetic citizens like you in our district."
Following his speech, District Administrator Allgaier presented Braun with the Federal Cross of Merit.
