During the training, the participants gained practical insights into topics such as communication, systemic attitudes, dealing with changes in the course of an illness and the importance of personal resources. The course concluded with the ceremonial presentation of certificates at the Ludwigsburg District Office - as a sign of appreciation and a starting point for the next assignment.
Meeting at eye level - support with an impact
The support group has been in existence since 2014 and is aimed at people with incipient dementia who are often still in the middle of life but need support in everyday life and in coping emotionally with their diagnosis. Whether on walks together, conversations or everyday activities - the volunteers give time, attention and human closeness. Studies show that this is particularly helpful in the early phase of the illness. After all, social participation, appreciative communication and the feeling of not being alone can stabilize abilities and strengthen well-being.
With the newly trained helpers, the group of supporters continues to grow in order to reach more affected people in the towns and communities of the district in the future. "We want to encourage people not to wait. Those who become active in the early stages gain quality of life - and often also new courage," says Sibylle Kostron, the project's specialist advisor.
