County road between Gemmrigheim and Besigheim open to traffic again from Thursday, January 18

County road 1623 between Gemmrigheim and Besigheim has been closed since December 14, 2023 after stones from a vineyard wall and boulders fell onto the road and the cycle path alongside the road. The closure can be lifted again from Thursday. However, only one lane can be used at this point until further notice. A signal system is regulating traffic here, as a temporary concrete protection wall is still being erected between the slope and the road to protect traffic from further falling rocks.

The service road and cycle path alongside the road must therefore remain closed. For pedestrians and cyclists, the district is installing a second mobile safety barrier between moving traffic and pedestrians and cyclists to protect schoolchildren in particular from the road.

Further landslides and rockfalls cannot be ruled out at present

The geologists consulted cannot completely rule out further landslides and rockfalls on the vineyard. It will probably be several months before specific slope stabilization measures have been investigated and implemented. Until then, the road will still only be passable to a limited extent. The district is in close contact with the municipality of Gemmrigheim and the affected owner of the vineyard property to solve the problem.
