Competition aims to strengthen children's reading skills

With around 600,000 participants every year, the reading competition, which was launched in 1959, is one of the oldest and largest school reading competitions in Germany.

The competition aims to spread enthusiasm for books to the public, strengthen children's reading skills and thus help them to broaden their horizons, understand social changes and develop an openness to new things. At www.vorlesewettbewerb.de/der-wettbewerb/buchempfehlungen, the Stiftung Buchkultur und Leseförderung also publishes curated reading tips on numerous topics - even beyond the well-known children's book classics.

The reading competition is organized by the Book Culture and Reading Promotion Foundation of the German Publishers and Booksellers Association and is held under the patronage of the Federal President.
