Dr. Stephan Döring, Dr. Uschi Traub and Jana Goeppentin from the health department will be on hand to answer any questions about vaccinations and travel health. This year, special attention will be paid to poliomyelitis (polio), a potentially life-threatening but vaccine-preventable disease.
Visitors can test their knowledge of polio with a dice game and win small prizes. From 10 to 11 a.m., Prof. Dr. Andrea Wechsler, Member of the European Parliament, will provide information on the European Union's vaccination targets. Interested parties will also have the opportunity to talk to Jutta Grolik from the "Regionalverband Polio e.V." - she herself is affected by polio.
All offers are free of charge. Visitors are asked to bring their vaccination cards and travel plans with them.
European Immunization Week 2025: "Vaccinations for all are humanly possible"
European Immunization Week has been held annually since 2005 and is coordinated by the WHO European Region, this year from 27 April to 3 May. The aim is to raise awareness of the importance of vaccination in preventing disease and protecting lives among the public, media, professionals and decision-makers.
This year, EIW will highlight the urgent need to achieve high and consistent vaccination coverage in all communities to prevent outbreaks of these diseases now and in the future. The theme is "Vaccination for all is humanly possible". The motto is "Prevent. Protect. Immunize." (Prevent. Protect. Immunize.). Past events in Baden-Württemberg, such as the occurrence of diphtheria cases or the detection of polio viruses in wastewater, illustrate how important it is to be as fully vaccinated as possible.
