Anniversary celebration: 100 years of management of the Favorite Park by the State Forestry Administration

The Favorite Park Ludwigsburg has been managed by the Baden-Württemberg State Forestry Administration for 100 years. This was commemorated on Wednesday (September 25) with an anniversary celebration. "The Favorite Park near the palace is a popular excursion destination for many residents of the district. It is also a prime example of the good cooperation between the district office and its forestry department on the one hand and the Stuttgart Regional Council, Nature Conservation and Landscape Management Department, on the other," said District Administrator Dr. Rainer Haas in his welcoming address. He also praised the cooperation with the castle administration.

A group of eight individuals stands around a freshly dug hole in a grassy area, engaged in planting a young tree. They are dressed in casual outdoor clothing, smiling and holding shovels. Trees and greenery are visible in the background, suggesting an environmental or community initiative.

At the planting of the anniversary lime tree (from left): Bettina Marx (Regional Council), Sonja Menold (Palace Administration), Werner Brekle (Environmental Associations), Dr. Michael Nill (Deputy Head of the Forestry Department at the District Office), District Administrator Dr. Haas, Martin Strittmatter (Forestry President Tübingen), Gundula Gmelin (Head of the Forestry Department at the District Office), Michael Ilk (Mayor of Ludwigsburg).

The management of the Favorite Park was transferred from royal ownership to the forestry administration in 1919 - since then, the Favorite Park has been maintained by the state forestry administration as a state-owned forest. The task is currently assigned to the forestry department of the district administration. "People and nature pose a variety of challenges for the administration in the park on a daily basis. The Forestry Department masters these challenges excellently by looking after the park with commitment and expertise," continued the District Administrator.

The participants of the anniversary celebration walked from the north-west entrance of the park along the main avenue to Favorite Palace. Along the way, specialist speakers gave short talks on current and historical topics in Favorite Park. District Administrator Haas planted a jubilee lime tree at the castle. In 2010, he and Li Lecheng, then mayor of the Chinese twin city of Yichang, planted a "tree of friendship" at Favorite Palace. Other trees have been planted in the park in recent years, and District Administrator Haas has also donated a tree for the park.
