Initiative of the district: Innovative approach to affordable housing

At a joint event with the Institute for Urban and Regional Development (IfSR), the district of Ludwigsburg provided information on possible courses of action on the topic of land reclamation through internal development in towns and municipalities. The aim is to support municipalities in creating affordable living space for citizens in the district of Ludwigsburg.

A conference room is set up with a long rectangular table surrounded by diverse participants. A presentation screen displays information to the group. The atmosphere is collaborative, with attendees engaged in discussion and presenting ideas related to the meeting's agenda.

Exchange on housing development: representatives of the municipalities discuss possibilities for affordable housing through inner-city development (IfSR) at the district event.

"Housing is one of the basic human needs," said Christos Vavouras, opening the event. "As head of the social affairs department, it is very important to me that target groups on a budget can also find suitable housing." Representatives from the municipalities in the district, including mayors and those responsible for housing, real estate and planning in the towns and municipalities, came together for a lively discussion.

Funding project is in its second funding phase

The reason for the event was the second funding period of the district project, which is supported by the state program "Gaining space through inner development".

Britta Kahnt from the Ludwigsburg district office's housing promotion department reported on new developments in the area of state housing promotion. Gitti Nurin, Landsiedlung Baden-Württemberg, spoke about the new state program "Fördergutgutscheine zur Schaffung von Wohnraum".

As part of the first funding project from 2022 to 2023, the towns of Besigheim, Bönnigheim and Marbach as well as the municipality of Möglingen were supported in areas such as determining vacancy rates and developing affordable housing.

In the second funding period in 2024 and 2025, the cities of Ludwigsburg and Korntal-Münchingen will receive support for neighborhood and area development as well as the further development of building opportunities.

Further projects offer potential for mutual learning and exchange

Mayor Thomas Winterhalter from the town of Steinheim/Murr offered an insight into existing plans and approaches, including the project to convert unused properties and vacancies into living space. Affalterbach's mayor Steffen Döttinger, together with Matthias George from Landsiedlung Baden-Württemberg, presented the redevelopment of the Birkhau housing estate. Sachsenheim's mayor, Holger Albrich, reported on an interesting approach that does not create additional living space, but uses the potential of sharing existing living space between young and old.

The specialist presentations were followed by a discussion and an active exchange with many questions and impulses.

Funding project still open to interested district municipalities

The project will run until the end of 2025 and towns and municipalities can still join in with manageable projects. Anyone interested can contact the district's project manager, Franziska Silber, at franziska.silber[at]landkreis-ludwigsburg.de or the IfSR at mail[at]ifsr-institut.de.
