Request for assistance from Lower Saxony: Ludwigsburg district sends units for flood protection

The Baden-Württemberg Ministry of the Interior forwarded a request for assistance from Lower Saxony to the Ludwigsburg district office on Saturday, December 30, 2023, at around 11 a.m. This involved a request for the mobile flood dam, which is loaded onto two of the district's roll-off containers. As the water levels in Lower Saxony continue to rise, critical infrastructure facilities there need to be protected.

A group of firefighters stands in front of fire trucks at night. They are wearing uniforms and smiling, with some individuals posing on the vehicles. The scene is illuminated by streetlights, emphasizing camaraderie and teamwork among the fire crew.

District Administrator Dietmar Allgaier (3rd from left), District Fire Chief Andy Dorroch (left) and Lord Mayor Jürgen Kessing (3rd from right) bid farewell to the firefighters. They are going into action for flood protection.

The roll-off containers procured in 2018/2019 have already proven themselves several times in flood situations in the district of Ludwigsburg and in neighboring districts. Now, for the first time, the system from the district of Ludwigsburg will also be used outside the state borders of Baden-Württemberg. In addition to the mobile flood dam, which has a dam height of 80 cm, each roll-off container is loaded with six trolleys with high-performance waste water pumps. These can pump 2,500 l/min and pump debris with a diameter of up to 80 mm.

Eight members of the Bietigheim-Bissingen and Remseck fire departments set off for Lilienthal near Bremen this Saturday at 5 p.m. to go into action tomorrow morning at 6 a.m. to secure the dyke there. District Administrator Dietmar Allgaier accepted the request for help from Lower Saxony without hesitation and is proud of the good equipment in the district of Ludwigsburg. District Administrator Allgaier was also very enthusiastic about the very short notice with which the eight firefighters from Bietigheim-Bissingen and Remseck agreed to help. "What would all the good equipment in the district be without motivated and highly committed personnel - many thanks to all the firefighters," added district fire chief Andy Dorroch.

The district of Ludwigsburg is currently preparing the construction of a new civil protection and disaster control center. The integrated control center and all civil protection and disaster control units are to be housed there. It will also be able to accommodate people in distress at short notice, for example due to fire or other disasters. On January 12, 2024, the district council will discuss the plans for the center in a draft resolution, with which the district of Ludwigsburg intends to position itself for the future.

District Administrator Allgaier did not want to leave it entirely without a look at the disaster control center planned in the district of Ludwigsburg and spoke of very balanced planning, the implementation of which is urgently required: "Nobody should say that they didn't know about anything - the time has now come to start planning as quickly as possible".

District Administrator Allgaier, accompanied by District Fire Chief Andy Dorroch and the two commanders Frank Wallesch and Ingo Schiek, bid farewell to the emergency crews and wished them a safe journey and, above all, a safe return home to the district.
