Helene Lange Grammar School celebrates quadruple anniversary

There were four reasons to celebrate at Helene-Lange-Gymnasium (HLG) in Markgröningen last weekend. In addition to the 175th birthday of the school's patron saint Helene Lange, the 150th anniversary of the founding of the girls' school and the planting of the school lime tree, the 35th anniversary of the Helene Lange Gymnasium school association was also celebrated.

A man stands at a podium, smiling and speaking into a microphone. He is dressed in a light gray suit with a white shirt and a red tie. The podium bears the name of "Helene-Lange-Gymnasium Markgröningen." The background features a dark curtain.

The town of Markgröningen and the district of Ludwigsburg are members of the school association and, as school authorities, have made a significant contribution to the preservation of the grammar school. In her speech at the beginning of the anniversary celebrations, town archivist Dr. Petra Schad reviewed the history of Markgröningen Grammar School. This was followed by a humorous play with staged anecdotes from school life in the past. District Administrator Dietmar Allgaier congratulated the school with a word of greeting and also brought a small gift: The district, as a member of the school association, donated two brand new signs for the school's outdoor area.

According to District Administrator Allgaier, the history of the HLG is also a history of female emancipation in the field of education. The founding of an educational institution for girls in Markgröningen was an important step in this regard. "The new educational opportunities opened up a whole new world and completely new life prospects for the girls back then," said the District Administrator, acknowledging the historical significance of the school. A school like the HLG with a decidedly musical and artistic focus is more important than ever in our times. Music and art are elementary components of the personal development of young people. "I am sure that if Helene Lange were to see that a school has been named after her that has become a creative and educational powerhouse for the entire district of Ludwigsburg - and beyond - it would make her very proud and happy," said the District Administrator.
