Last year's good result topped once again

Once again, cyclists from the district took to the pedals in July and collected kilometers for the annual "CITY CYCLING" cycling competition. District Administrator Dietmar Allgaier is delighted with the excellent results achieved once again by both his own team and the district as a whole.

This time, the campaign sponsored by the state initiative RadKULTUR was held under the motto "Cycling for a good climate". While the previous year's results were almost doubled in 2020, the increase this time was more moderate, but nonetheless a complete success: over half of all district municipalities (25 municipalities, previous year: 15) took part in CITY CYCLING, with a total of 8,344 cyclists taking part (previous year: 6,196) and cycling an incredible 1.83 million kilometers (previous year: 1.54 million). "It is quite possible that these figures will put the district back on the winner's podium nationwide," says Lisa Röthinger, the district's cycling officer. The evaluation will only take place after the end of the entire competition, as the campaign period has not yet been completed in some municipalities in Germany.

District Administrator Dietmar Allgaier is delighted with the good result of both his own team and the district as a whole: "The successes in the city cycling competition are also an indication that more and more people in the district are switching to bicycles permanently and thus making an important contribution to climate protection. I would like to thank them for this and congratulate all the winners!"

The most active cycling municipalities (most kilometers per inhabitant) in the district were Oberriexingen, Schwieberdingen and Markgröningen. Among the cycling teams with the most total kilometers were the Mörike-Gymnasium Ludwigsburg, Bosch@Si and the W&W Group team.

The best three individual results were also awarded prizes - the two best cyclists cycled over 3,000 kilometers - without a motor! Ten bike packages will also be raffled off among all participants in the CITY CYCLING competition as a thank-you.

128 employees of the district administration office also formed a team and finished in 5th place in the district with a total of 29,228 kilometers. The two district cycling officers, Madeleine Janker and Lisa Röthinger, will personally deliver the prizes to the winners in the coming weeks.

This is the fifth time the campaign has taken place in the district and participation is also planned for next year. Local authorities wishing to take part can contact the cycling officers at the Ludwigburg district office directly at radverkehr@landkreis-ludwigsburg.de.
