Against blank spots on the digital map

With Vaihingen an der Enz and Sersheim, two municipalities in the western district can look forward to receiving funding decisions from the federal government for broadband expansion.

In the presence of District Administrator Dietmar Allgaier, Parliamentary State Secretary to the Federal Minister of Transport and Digital Infrastructure Steffen Bilger handed over funding notifications to the Mayor of Vaihingen Gerd Maisch for 500,000 euros and to the Mayor of Sersheim Jürgen Scholz for 225,000 euros.

The federal government's funding program for broadband expansion in municipalities is intended to ensure that "white spots", i.e. connections of less than 30 megabits per second, disappear from the digital map as soon as possible. With the funding commitment behind them, the Mayor of Vaihingen, Gerd Maisch, and the Mayor of Sersheim, Jürgen Scholz, can now initiate the tenders for the fiber optic connections in their municipalities. The funding commitment applies to private connections as well as commercial areas.

"I am delighted about the funding commitment from the federal government. This will enable us to significantly improve the supply of high-speed Internet connections in our municipality," said Sersheim Mayor Jürgen Scholz. Mayor Gerd Maisch stated: "The last white spots in the broadband network are also to disappear in Vaihingen an der Enz. We can do this well with the funds that have now been made available." District Administrator Dietmar Allgaier was also very pleased that, with the support of the Zweckverband Kreisbreitband Ludwigsburg, whose Managing Director Viktor Kostic was also present at the meeting in the district administration office, further milestones can now be laid for the infrastructure of the coming decades in the district municipalities.

The panel agreed that it was pleasing that the federal government is now also tackling "gray spot funding" following the funding program for "white spots". In future, municipalities and districts will be able to apply for federal funding for fiber optic expansion in areas with an internet connection of less than 100 megabits per second. "The special-purpose association will of course support the member municipalities again," emphasizes Kostic.
