Company summer 2019: Registration possible from May 1

What comes after school? Many students find it difficult to decide on the right career. With more than 300 training occupations, choosing a career is a real challenge. This is where the company summer comes in, a district-wide project of the Ludwigsburg district education region.

Pupils can get a taste of training occupations, gain insights into work processes and get to know employers from all sectors. "It is important to us that young people from all municipalities in the district can benefit from this helpful career guidance program," says Markus Schmitt from the summer company team.

Young people can register for the company summer from May 1 for up to three taster days during the Whitsun and summer vacations. Numerous taster days are available at www.firmensommer.de. With just a few clicks, students can get an overview of the diverse range of careers offered by companies, institutions and facilities in a wide variety of sectors.

During the taster days, they can then get to know numerous training occupations and also some dual study courses at local employers. "For example, the program includes guided tours of the company, discussions with trainees and sometimes you can even lend a hand yourself," reports Harry Vollmer, another member of the summer company team.

Pupils can already get an overview of the taster days on the platform. More than 50 employers have already posted their offers, giving young people the opportunity to choose from more than 70 professions. More interesting taster offers will be added continuously until the summer vacations.

Pupils are often surprised at what is actually behind the individual professions. An occupation that previously held little interest may become a new favorite or the supposed dream job may not be as dreamy as assumed.

Each participant is covered by accident and liability insurance through the district and receives a certificate of participation, which looks good in the application portfolio. Companies can present themselves as interesting employers. Especially in times when training positions often remain vacant, early contact between employers and future trainees is becoming increasingly important. "We are always pleased when we hear from employers that they have got to know their trainees through the company summer," says Schmitt.

The internet platform was made possible with the kind support of the "Jugendförderung, Arbeit und Soziales" foundation of Kreissparkasse Ludwigsburg and the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Economic Affairs. Cooperation partners are the Ludwigsburg District Skilled Workers Alliance, the Ludwigsburg Employment Agency, the Ludwigsburg Chamber of Industry and Commerce, the Ludwigsburg District Craftsmen's Association, the Ludwigsburg State Education Authority and the City of Ludwigsburg.
