First health report for the district of Ludwigsburg published: positive facts and new challenges

The district of Ludwigsburg has presented its first health report to the members of the district council. It clearly shows that the district has a lot to offer: an overall high level of health, increasing life expectancy and generally good socio-economic stability. However, in addition to these positive facts, there are also new challenges that healthcare has to face. Above all, demographic change and the associated challenges are coming into focus. "This report provides a comprehensive overview of the health of people in the district of Ludwigsburg and shows us where we still need to take action," says District Administrator Dietmar Allgaier.

The key messages of the health report are: Cardiovascular disease and cancer remain key health problems, while the increase in the need for long-term care coupled with a decline in the number of caregivers brings new burdens. There is also a particular focus on the age structure of the medical profession and the potential impact on GP care. At the same time, the report shows that a significant proportion of the population is struggling with overweight or obesity.

Basis for the work of the municipal health conference in the district

The report, which has now been presented for the first time, serves as the basis for the work of the Municipal Health Conference (KGK) in the district, which has been dealing with the challenges in the healthcare system and the exchange between local health stakeholders since 2012 in order to improve population health. "Health reporting is not an end in itself, but rather serves to provide citizens and stakeholders in the healthcare system and healthcare policy, in particular the KGK, with well-founded information to support and accompany their commitment to promoting health and ensuring high-quality healthcare," emphasizes Dr. Karlin Stark, Head of the Health Department at the District Office.

Findings are incorporated into the health planning of the district and the region

The health report is based on current socio-economic, medical and structural data, all of which are linked to the topic of health. This is mainly data from the Baden-Württemberg State Statistical Office, the Baden-Württemberg Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians, the Baden-Württemberg Chamber of Pharmacists and the Baden-Württemberg Health Atlas. The indicators examined include, for example, population density and projections, the youth and old-age dependency ratio, the number of live births, the frequency of hospital cases, the density of care, the age structure of the medical profession and the number of people in need of care. Health reporting is a statutory duty of the health authorities; the findings are incorporated into the health planning of the district and the region.
