A bicycle for the winner of the climate protection rally

Congratulations! After the district festival last summer, 18-year-old high school graduate Carina Niemann is the main winner of the climate protection rally. She redeemed the voucher she won for a bicycle, which was officially presented to her at a joint meeting at the district hall.

Three women stand together outdoors, holding a bicycle. One woman is holding the front wheel, while another stands beside her, and the third holds a handlebar. They appear to be smiling and engaged in conversation, with a landscaped background of shrubs and a cloudy sky.

Around six months have passed since the district festival to mark the 50th anniversary of the Ludwigsburg district. However, the event is still present in the everyday life of Carina Niemann from Ludwigsburg - because she won first prize in the ClimateHandprint climate protection rally: A 2000 euro voucher for Fahrradhaus Winter in Ludwigsburg.

The main prize was provided by Kreissparkasse Ludwigsburg. When redeeming the voucher, the high school graduate chose a black city bike. On January 17, a joint appointment took place at the Kreishaus. At this event, Isabel Kurz, press spokeswoman and departmental director of the Kreissparkasse board, and Stefanie Bartzsch, head of the district development, climate protection, mobility and tourism department at the district administration office, presented the bike to the lucky winner and thanked her for her participation.

"Comfortable and sustainable mobility"

"We are delighted that the district festival and the climate protection rally were so well received. With the bike, our main winner will be comfortably and sustainably mobile in future," said Bartzsch at the prize-giving ceremony.

"We have been making significant contributions to climate protection for many years. For example, we support the 'Energy-saving models in schools' project, natural grazing by water buffalo in the Bottwartal valley, the preservation of orchards and vineyards, the climate forum planned for March and the district's climate protection rally. We are already saving valuable resources such as electricity and paper on our way to achieving climate neutrality in our own operations by 2035 at the latest, and the trend is rising. We are also investing in photovoltaics, geothermal energy, heat pumps, solar thermal energy, heat recovery and intelligent control of technical systems. We offer our employees incentives to switch to public transport or cycling with our job ticket and JobRad. We also take part in the city cycling event every year with a large team," said Kurz, explaining Kreissparkasse's wide-ranging commitment.

Winner wants to use her new bike mainly in her free time

Carina Niemann wants to use her new bike mainly for leisure activities such as going to dance and the music club as well as for bike tours. "I like the fact that the bike is so light and the ride feels comfortable. I like cycling because I can get from A to B quickly and get around - and it's environmentally friendly too," said the student happily. "Climate protection is very important to me. I often think several times about which mode of transport I'm going to use for which route. At home, we keep our electricity and heating consumption low and have a balcony power station."

The rally took place at the end of June 2023 on the grounds of the Ludwigsburg District Office and motivated the more than 150 participants to take climate-friendly action in various areas of life. The focus was on the idea of the Climate Handprint, a positive addition to the carbon footprint. The handprint stands for individual actions and support for social change in climate protection.
