25 years of Spätlingsmarkt and 20 years of friendship with Bergamo

There is a double anniversary to celebrate in the Ludwigsburg district: the Spätlingsmarkt has been around for 25 years and the friendship with the province of Bergamo in Italy has existed for 20 years.

A bustling craft fair scene featuring a variety of handmade items displayed on tables. Visitors browse through colorful decorations, crafts, and gifts, creating a lively atmosphere. The stalls are adorned with various ornaments, showcasing the creativity of local artisans.

Before the public is invited to the official opening of the anniversary late market on Monday, November 7, at 6.30 pm in the district hall at Hindenburgstraße 40, District Administrator Dietmar Allgaier and the President of the Italian province of Bergamo Pasquale Gandolfi will meet with many companions. The 20-year friendship is celebrated with a ceremony and the partnership, which has existed since this year, is documented with the re-signing of the certificate.

This is the fifth partnership for the district of Ludwigsburg, emphasizes District Administrator Dietmar Allgaier: In addition to the Italian partnership, there are partnerships with the Upper Galilee region in Israel, Pest County in Hungary, the city of Yichang in China and the district of Zwickau in Germany. "I am delighted that we have further strengthened our friendship by officially signing the document and that we now also officially have an Italian partner district."

The deep concern and solidarity with the province of Bergamo have brought the two districts closer together, Allgaier recalled of the region in northern Italy, which has been extremely affected by the coronavirus pandemic. "It is important that we stand together for peace, solidarity, democracy and a united Europe." Joint economic interests and a climate partnership should be a greater focus of cooperation in the future.

It is very pleasing that the two cities of Ludwigsburg and Bergamo have also entered into an official partnership. One success of this cooperation is, for example, the Youth Citizens' Council. In it, 25 young people from Bergamo and Ludwigsburg are working with great commitment on the lessons learned from the coronavirus pandemic and important areas of action from the perspective of young people, which both cities can solve together. "The young people are the ones who will pass on the values to the next generations and keep the partnership alive," says Allgaier, delighted with the successful cooperation.

Of course, there will once again be specialties from Bergamo such as ham, salami, wine and cheese, as well as specialties from other partner regions at the Spätlingsmarkt from 7 to 12 November: Hungarian delicacies from Pest County such as salami and cheese, paprika pastes, sea buckthorn products, gingerbread, honey, soaps and cosmetic products, as well as beautiful handmade traditional Hungarian folk art. The outdoor area in Eugenstraße invites you to linger before Christmas with its culinary offerings. New on offer there are s'Esele beer from the local brewery in Asperg, crêpes in many variations, dinnede and Swabian sausage specialties. The partner district of Zwickau attracts visitors with a daily changing, tasty range of dishes, Gernsdorf beer, Erzgebirge art and products made from sheep and alpaca wool.

Exhibitors from the Vaucluse département will be bringing the finest French treasures with them, from honey to bouquets of lavender, from apricot jam to olives, olive oil, French salami, teas, handmade soaps, fabrics, tablecloths and wine. The ceramic artist Ettie Mazor and the famous Israeli artist Motty Golan will enrich the late market with paintings on ecological themes and handicrafts from the Upper Galilee.

The international offer is framed by many exhibitors, direct marketers and artists from the district, with Swabian specialties from local farmers, bakers and confectioners, butchers, millers, winegrowers, gardeners and beekeepers. Handicrafts in a wide variety of designs are available in pottery, turned, woven, sewn or felted. Fans of highly spiritual offerings will also get their money's worth at the whisky and gin tasting, wine tastings and the young winegrowers' after-work party with DJ Luca, with sparkling wine specialties from the twin towns and municipalities of the district and exquisite wines from young winegrowers, as well as one or two "schnapps" made from fruit from local orchards, distilled by experienced distillers.

However, as is the case every year, the visit of the Italian delegation to the anniversary late harvest market is the main focus: The reunion with friends.
