The district cider: nature conservation for drinking

The district cider is a meadow orchard project for drinking. A new edition is now planned. Small suppliers in particular are being sought for this.

A bottle of beverage labeled "GIDRE," featuring a blue and gold design. The label highlights that it is a product from the region, with a logo at the top. The bottle has a clear liquid and a capsulated top.

The district of Ludwigsburg is planning to produce the popular "Landkreis-Cidre" again this year. It is a joint project between the district of Ludwigsburg, the LEV Ludwigsburg, the StoP orchard project from Sachsenheim and the Kreisverband für Obstbau, Garten und Landschaft Ludwigsburg e.V. (District Association for Fruit Growing, Gardening and Landscape).

Orchard meadows are an important part of our cultural landscape

Orchard meadows characterize the face of our cultural landscape, provide a habitat for around 5000 animal and plant species and are therefore among the most species-rich habitats in Central Europe. Their conservation is an important contribution to the preservation of biodiversity. The district cider project is a small piece in the mosaic of this large project.

Even though this year's fruit harvest will be small, around 3000 to 5000 kilograms of apples from orchards in the Ludwigsburg district are needed for the district cider. As a financial incentive for the laborious cultivation of the orchards, a surcharge per decitonne is paid in addition to the daily price.

As many orchard owners as possible should benefit

To ensure that as many orchard owners as possible can benefit from this surcharge project, the delivery quantity per producer is limited. Delivery is also possible in small quantities. The only important thing is that only healthy and ripe apples are delivered. Registration of the planned delivery quantity is required and should be made by Sunday, October 1. The fruit collection will take place on Saturday, October 7, from 1 to 5:30 pm at the OGV Lehrgarten in Kleinsachsenheim.
