Corona pandemic: Vaccinations for children and young people aged 12 and over now possible at the KIZ Ludwigsburg

A good vaccination coverage rate for the population is crucial for overcoming the coronavirus pandemic and further easing restrictions. Against this background, vaccinations for children and adolescents aged 12 and over are now also possible with the BionTech/Pfizer vaccine in the Ludwigsburg district vaccination centers (KIZ).

The COMIRNATY vaccine from BionTech/Pfizer is also approved for children and adolescents from the age of 12 following a medical consultation. In contrast, the Spikevax vaccine from Moderna is licensed for use from the age of 18. The vaccines Vaxzevria from AstraZeneca and the COVID-19 vaccine Janssen from Johnson & Johnson should primarily be administered from the age of 60.

The Standing Committee on Vaccination (STIKO) recommends vaccination with the COMIRNATY vaccine from BionTech/Pfizer for children and adolescents with pre-existing conditions from the age of 12. The STIKO recommendation also includes children and adolescents aged 12 and over in the vicinity of people at risk who are unable to protect themselves and adolescents who are at increased risk due to their work.

Parents can decide together with their children, after consulting a doctor, whether vaccination is an option for their child. Vaccinations are now available at the Ludwigsburg District Vaccination Center for all 12 to 15-year-olds accompanied by a parent or guardian, or from the age of 16 with the written consent of a parent or guardian.
