The Zweckverband Kreisbreitband Ludwigsburg was the first in the region to secure a grant from the federal and state governments for all eligible schools and hospitals. "We are proud of this - and it shows that broadband expansion is a top priority for us," says District Administrator Dietmar Allgaier.
"Schools are a neuralgic point when it comes to connection speed," continued the district administrator. "Schools are the place where the younger generation can learn how to use digital solutions in a more accessible way than anywhere else. This is precisely why the schools here are particularly close to our hearts."
The next step follows hot on the heels of this: the Zweckverband Kreisbreitband Ludwigsburg has started to put the construction work for equipping the schools and clinics with fiber optic connections out to public tender. "We don't want to lose any time to be really sure that we can complete the expansion in all participating schools by 2025 at the latest. If everything goes according to plan, even much faster," explains Viktor Kostic, Managing Director of the special-purpose association.
"The accelerated supply of schools is a focus of the regional gigabit program this year," explains Hans-Jürgen Bahde, Managing Director of Gigabit Region Stuttgart GmbH and broadband representative for the Stuttgart region. "A fibre optic connection forms the basis for the digitalization of schools, which is why we very much welcome the fact that the district has taken action here at an early stage."
All schools whose internet connection is slower than 30 megabits per second - calculated per school class - were able to take part in the special program "Broadband expansion for schools in the district". The state has now contributed a total of 2.44 million euros for the expansion. This means that around 6.3 million euros are now available for the special program. The special purpose association plans to be able to award the first contracts for the fiber optic expansion by the summer.
