Bietigheim artist Roland Bentz presents painting to District Administrator Dietmar Allgaier - Happiness is a swift dragonfly in Bhutan

Exotic insects can be seen in many works by Bietigheim artist Roland Bentz. Following an exhibition of his works in the Ludwigsburg district hall until the beginning of August, the district has acquired the painting "happiness is dragonfly visiting your room in Bhutan". The artist recently presented his work to District Administrator Dietmar Allgaier in the district hall. "I am delighted that we were able to acquire this beautiful painting for the district's collection," said the head of the district administration on this occasion.

Two men in formal attire are standing side by side, each holding a large, colorful painting featuring abstract butterflies and insects. The setting appears to be an office space with neutral-colored walls in the background. Both individuals are smiling and presenting the artwork.

Roland Bentz from Bietigheim is a versatile artist. He expresses himself in watercolor and acrylic painting. He has achieved a special mastery in graphic art and printing techniques. In terms of content, his work is characterized by the experience of Bhutan, where Bentz travelled several times, and the focus on insects as the main motif: in addition to landscapes, cityscapes, monuments or type portraits, beetles, bees or butterflies usually appear in his work, which are shown as the main protagonists in portrait-like size.

This is also the case in the painting "happiness is dragonfly visiting your room in Bhutan", which has now been acquired by the district: Bentz created the painting in a mixed technique of acrylic painting, chalks and pencils during a three-week stay in Bhutan in the Paro Valley in 2019. "I was staying in a traditional farmhouse at the time, which was located in the middle of blossoming rice fields. The rice plants standing in the water were populated by bright red dragonflies, which also flew quickly through my makeshift malt tent. It was the end of the monsoon, and the world of butterflies and insects was quite diverse. Red-ripened chili fruits, nimble dragonflies and exotic butterflies, if that's not a typical motif for Bhutan?" the artist writes about his painting.

The trips to Bhutan have not only shaped the artistic work of the Bietigheim artist: Roland Bentz and Dr. Wolfgang Pfeiffer also founded the Bhutan Hilfe e.V. in 1999, of which Bentz is the second chairman.
