Bastions of building quality in the midst of the construction boom

A total of 22 building projects will be honored by the Chamber of Architects this year in the "Exemplary Building" competition - three of which are projects from the district.

A total of 22 building projects have been awarded prizes by the Chamber of Architects in this year's "Exemplary Building" competition - three of which are projects from the district. "Although - and precisely because - we are currently in the middle of a building boom, it is particularly important to look at the quality of architecture," said District Administrator Dr. Rainer Haas at a press conference on the competition. Both the new district archive on Friedrichstrasse in Ludwigsburg and the outdoor facilities around the new district office building received an award. The same applies to the residential complex for refugees in Besigheim, which was jointly commissioned by the city and the district. The second extension to the district hall was considered the most important project in Germany to be realized with recycled concrete. The jury also praised the preservation of the historic structure of the building at Friedrichstrasse 71, which saved valuable resources. The flower meadow between the two new buildings and the historic wall, which was included in the planning, were also worthy of an award from the jury.

"As the district administration, we want to set a good example in terms of sustainability and ecology in our construction projects. The awards show us that we are on the right track," continued the district administrator. In the midst of the current construction boom and the great demand for living space in the Ludwigsburg district, architects and construction planners are increasingly being called upon to pay attention to space-saving construction and increased internal development in towns and municipalities.

The "Exemplary Building" award procedure is organized by the Chamber of Architects. The jury is made up of four architects who focus on planning and design details and do not come from the district, as well as three non-expert jurors who come from the district of Ludwigsburg and focus more on the overall aesthetic impression. This year, 82 entries were submitted to the competition, 22 of which received an award.
