For safety reasons: "Weltenstuhl" sculpture in Walheim dismantled

The well-known wooden sculpture "Weltenstuhl", which has adorned the entrance to Walheim since 2006, was dismantled by the road maintenance department on September 23, 2024 for safety reasons. The work by the late artist Mihály Gubis had suffered badly over the years: The oak trunks had become dilapidated and severely damaged by fungal infestation and pests. Restoration was no longer possible due to the advanced state of decay.

A tall wooden structure resembling a ladder stands on grassy land, surrounded by trees and bushes. The sky is partly cloudy. A sign is positioned nearby, providing information about the structure.

The oak trunks of the "Weltenstuhl" sculpture in Walheim had become dilapidated. Restoration was no longer possible (Ludwigsburg District Office).

The sculpture was located near the B27 federal highway, at the entrance to Walheim. As a result, there was a risk that the artwork could endanger traffic. Due to its poor condition and the fact that parts were already missing, such as one of the backrests, dismantling was unavoidable.

The sculpture was professionally dismantled by the road maintenance department and the individual parts were disposed of.
