Two districts, four weeks, ten stations - this is the motto under which the state capital Stuttgart, together with the districts of Böblingen and Ludwigsburg and the Verband Region Stuttgart, is organizing the first district challenge of RegioRadStuttgart. The districts of Böblingen and Ludwigsburg are competing against each other with five rental stations each. Free minute vouchers are up for grabs. The public bicycle and pedelec rental system now offers around 1,500 bicycles and pedelecs as well as ten cargo pedelecs for hire at more than 200 stations. These are available in the state capital as well as in 42 other towns and municipalities in the region. The RegioRäder and RegioPedelecs can also be rented in many towns and municipalities in the Böblingen and Ludwigsburg districts. The two district offices are also leading the way in sustainable mobility and have each had a station set up in front of the district office and at their vocational schools.
Ludwigsburg District Administrator Dietmar Allgaier explains: "With our stations at the district hall and at the vocational school center on Römerhügelweg, we are creating an attractive mobility alternative for employees, visitors, pupils and teachers. At the same time, the network of stations in the district will be further expanded, making the rental system even more popular."
His colleague from Böblingen, District Administrator Roland Bernhard, says: "The RegioRadStuttgart stations at the Böblingen District Office and at the Gottlieb Daimler School in Sindelfingen are an important component of our integrated mobility concept. They enable flexible and environmentally friendly mobility and make the local offer even more attractive. You can cycle to the nearest rental station at Böblingen or Sindelfingen train station or into the city center in just a few minutes."
The two districts are now pedaling against each other from Monday, September 20, to Wednesday, October 20. Whoever achieves the most rides will be the fall champion. The district of Böblingen is entering the race with its stations at the district administration office and the Gottlieb-Daimler School, as well as the two stations at Böblingen and Sindelfingen railroad stations and the station at Postplatz in Böblingen city center. The district of Ludwigsburg is competing with its two stations at the district hall and the vocational training center as well as two stations at Ludwigsburg train station and the station at Ludwigsburg hospital.
Böblingen District Administrator Roland Bernhard on the challenge: "We are confident that more and more employees and visitors, as well as pupils and teachers from vocational schools and other citizens, will integrate RegioRadStuttgart into their everyday lives as an alternative mobility option. We are looking forward to pedaling against the district of Ludwigsburg for a month."
District Administrator Allgaier: "The RegioRad stations at the district administration office and vocational school center are already in high demand. We are very committed to collecting journeys for our district, whether at our stations, the stations at the train station or in front of the clinic. It would be great to get new users excited about this flexible and future-oriented mobility service."
Dr. Nicola Schelling, Regional Director of the Verband Region Stuttgart, on the campaign: "Discovering new mobility options is fun - the challenge picks up on this wonderfully. And it's great that the stations of the two district offices, which are co-financed by our 'Two for One' funding program, are also taking part in the competition."
The service provider of the RegioRadStuttgart bicycle and pedelec rental system is Deutsche Bahn Connect GmbH, which not only precisely evaluates the rental figures as part of the challenge. Thanks to a dense network of stations, such as those in Ludwigsburg, Böblingen and Sindelfingen, the rental system is particularly attractive for commuters. The RegioRäder and pedelecs are a flexible and health-promoting mobility option, especially when combined with public transport.
Ralf Maier-Geißer, overall coordinator of the public rental system, emphasizes: "We are delighted that the districts of Böblingen and Ludwigsburg themselves are participating in RegioRadStuttgart and that the rental system is growing steadily in both districts. The selected stations are intended to make it clear that RegioRäder and RegioPedelecs are ideal for trips and spontaneous short journeys as well as for commuting to work or school. We are excited to see which district will achieve the most rentals at the five selected stations."
Particularly practical for short commutes: With the polygoCard tariff, users receive 30 free minutes with every bike ride, while the first 15 minutes are free with the pedelec. Cycling is therefore not only flexible and environmentally friendly, but also very cheap from A to B. The VVS polygoCard can also be ordered free of charge at www.mypolygo.de.
