ART LOOP sculpture cycle path inaugurated

The ART LOOP sculpture cycle path has been completed and was officially inaugurated on Thursday, June 23, with a ceremony in the Schwieberdingen community center. The 35-kilometre cycle-art trail takes you through the unique landscape of the Stroh and Heckengäus from Schwieberdingen railroad station to the Eberding districts of Nussdorf and Hochdorf via Hemmingen and back again.

A group of individuals, including officials and community members, stands together, holding a ribbon for a ceremonial opening. They are positioned in front of a monument and surrounded by trees and people in the background. The atmosphere is celebratory, signaling an event or new beginning.

District Administrator Dietmar Allgaier, Mayor Lauxmann (Schwieberdingen) - also on behalf of Mayors Peter Schäfer (Eberdingen) and Thomas Schäfer (Hemmingen), Simone Demandt, 1st Chairwoman of the Baden-Württemberg Artists' Association and Regional Director Dr. Alexander Lahl from the Verband Region Stuttgart inaugurated the newly created sculpture cycle path with speeches in the Schwieberdingen community center.

The idea of combining art and nature has produced outstanding cultural projects in Germany in recent decades. Different concepts have given rise to art trails, forest sculpture paths and sculpture fields as tourist attractions. As early as 2017, a concept for a sculpture cycle path through the varied landscape of the Stroh and Heckengäus was therefore developed under the leadership of the district. The Künstlerbund Baden-Württemberg e.V. was a partner in the art project tender.

The now completed ART LOOP sculpture cycle path expands the well-developed and extensive cycle path network, consisting of tourist and everyday cycle paths. A pedelec charging and rental station at the starting point of the route gives visitors access to contemporary art and culture in the region. Seven works of art, positioned in the municipalities of Schwieberdingen, Hemmingen and Eberdingen, enrich the enjoyment of cycling through the countryside along the circular route.

From 47 designs submitted by 35 interested artists, all members of the Künstlerbund Baden-Württemberg e.V., a high-caliber jury selected the seven works of art that have now been installed:

  • Thomas Weber: "Tower"
  • Reinhard Scherer: "Strohgäuer Sattel"
  • Nino Maaskola: "Landmarks further than the eye can see"
  • Nina Laaf: "Encounter" and "Existence"
  • Tilmann Eberwein: "Rotation Rack"
  • Daniel Wagenblast: "HELLO, HELLO, GOOD DAY"

Around 210,000 euros were invested in the design and implementation of the sculpture cycle path. The project was financed by the municipalities of Eberdingen, Hemmingen, Schwieberdingen and the district of Ludwigsburg. The Art, Culture and Education Foundation of the Kreissparkasse Ludwigsburg, Mr. Peter W. Klein from Eberdingen-Nussdorf, the Wüstenrot Foundation and the Verband Region Stuttgart contributed additional funding of around 60,000 euros.
