Offers for children and adolescents: Vaccinator decides

Before Christmas, the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Social Affairs came out clearly in favor of boosters for young people. This means that the booster vaccination is generally possible in the Ludwigsburg district at the district vaccination centers.

Booster vaccinations for adolescents aged 12 and over are generally possible at the vaccination centers in the Ludwigsburg district, even without a Stiko recommendation, although the actual vaccination on site is always a decision made by the responsible vaccinator.

On December 22, the federal government confirmed Baden-Württemberg's line on boosters for young people under the age of 18. The federal government now also allows booster vaccinations for adolescents. Until now, Baden-Württemberg had only given a positive assessment of booster vaccinations for adolescents under the responsibility of a doctor, in particular due to unresolved questions regarding liability. The federal government has now made it clear that it will assume liability for booster vaccinations for under-18s. This means that, with immediate effect, young people aged 12 and over can also receive a booster vaccination at vaccination centers with the backing of the state. For groups that already had a vaccination recommendation (for the first and second vaccination), the federal government will now assume liability for the booster, as announced by the Federal Minister of Health.

Despite the urgency of the situation, it is particularly important for those responsible to provide very good information and support for children and young people and their parents. For this reason, local doctors can decide against vaccination in individual cases. "If there are medical reasons against vaccination, or if the young person's willingness to be vaccinated is not clearly recognizable, we ask for your understanding that vaccination is not possible at the district's vaccination centers," says District Administrator Dietmar Allgaier. In this case, a detailed consultation with a pediatrician is the better alternative.

In addition, the amount of BionTech vaccine available is currently in short supply again, so there may be a shortage of appointments for young people and under-30s as well as pregnant women.

Appointments for children between the ages of 5 and 11 can be made via a separate link: https://kinderimpfung.kizlb.de. The usual link https://termin.kizlb.de applies for adolescents. Vaccination without an appointment is not possible.
