Social distancing is still rule number 1 - health is the main focus of CITY CYCLING in the district

July 1 marks the start of this year's CITY CYCLING in the district of Ludwigsburg. The aim of the campaign is to cycle as many everyday journeys as possible within three weeks and collect kilometers for your virtual team, for example on the way to work or to the shops. In addition to the benefits for your own fitness, your wallet and climate protection, the focus this year is on the health benefits of cycling. Especially in times of the corona pandemic, the experts believe that cycling is an ideal way to be flexibly mobile in everyday life and strengthen the immune system at the same time. "Exercising in the fresh air is good for body and soul and trains the respiratory muscles," explains pulmonologist Dr. Michael Barczok in the latest expert video from the RadKULTUR initiative of the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Transport.

Another advantage: according to virologists, the risk of infection when cycling is low, as you can automatically keep a sufficient distance when overtaking, for example. It is therefore not necessary to wear a face mask when cycling. "It is neither sensible nor necessary to wear a mask when cycling, as it tends to hinder breathing," emphasizes Dr. Michael Barczok. However, caution is advised in places where you stop on your bike and come into contact with people. "At red lights, cyclists should keep enough distance from each other to protect themselves and others," recommends virologist Dr. Martin Stürmer.

Citizens can register to take part in CITY CYCLING online at www.stadtradeln.de/landkreis-ludwigsburg from now on and during the entire campaign period from July 1 to 21. Participation is free of charge. The district is giving away several surprise packages among all participants. Joint cycling tours and events are not taking place this year.

For a bicycle-friendly mobility culture in Baden-Württemberg

Baden-Württemberg is committed to the development of modern and sustainable mobility. The bicycle and cycling play a central role in this. The RadKULTUR initiative launched by the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Transport in 2012 is committed to promoting a bicycle-friendly mobility culture in the state in order to make mobility behavior in the state sustainable in the long term and to increase the share of cycling in overall traffic. Together with the RadKULTUR municipalities supported by the state, it offers a diverse program to promote the fun of cycling and motivate people to get on their bikes as a matter of course in their everyday lives.
