Closing event for the STADTRADELN 2019 campaign in Ludwigsburg district hall

The participants in the CITY CYCLING campaign were presented with their awards on Tuesday by Dr. Christian Sußner, Head of the Department for Environment, Technology and Construction, and Inge Günsel, Climate Protection Manager at the district administration office, at the district hall. The best team result was achieved by the W&W Group with 61,556 kilometers cycled, followed by Bosch Schwieberdingen with 49,850 kilometers. The CITY CYCLING campaign took place for the third time in a row in the district of Ludwigsburg.

A group of individuals, including cyclists and pedestrians, stands together outside a building. They are holding certificates and wearing a mix of casual and reflective safety clothing. The setting features autumn foliage and a pathway, emphasizing a community celebration related to cycling or safety awareness.

The participants were able to compete in five different categories. In the category "HighestCO2 savings", the city of Ludwigsburg took first place with 174,420 tons ofCO2, followed by Schwieberdingen and Vaihingen. The best relative team results are also remarkable: The "Juli-Tour" team achieved a total of 1,788 kilometers with just two cyclists, followed by the "Zweiradmechanik Schimmelpfennig" trio with 1,074.5 kilometers and the two "Großbottwar cyclists" with 947.9 kilometers. All prize winners received trees in the form of a donation, which are donated via the OXFAMUNVERPACKT platform.

Climate protection manager Inge Günsel emphasized at the award ceremony that the campaign is primarily intended to encourage people to switch to bicycles in everyday life. This is because the many short distances covered by the participants on their bicycles in everyday life make up a large proportion of the overall performance. The topic is also important for companies and authorities, said Günsel. The Ludwigsburg District Office, for example, is currently developing an official mobility management system to increase the proportion of cyclists in the workforce. Madeleine Janker, the district's cycling officer, pointed out the high potential for high-speed cycle paths in the district. Two feasibility studies for the Bietigheim-Bissingen to Kornwestheim and Vaihingen to Korntal-Münchingen corridors have been commissioned by the district administration, which are to be completed and presented next year. The feasibility study supervised by the Rems-Murr district for a high-speed cycle link from Ludwigsburg to Waiblingen, in which the district of Ludwigsburg is also involved, has already been completed.

During the three-week campaign period of CITY CYCLING 2019, 3314 individual cyclists in the district of Ludwigsburg cycled a total of around 814,515 kilometers. This corresponds to aCO2 saving of 116 tons. Eleven municipalities took part in the campaign under the patronage of the district. The CITY CYCLING campaign will take place again next year.
