Boys and men are often less health-conscious in everyday life than girls and women, as traditional male roles increase the willingness to take risks, prevent them from paying attention to their own state of health and make boys and men less likely to take advantage of health promotion services or check-ups. In 2018, a total of around 350 out of 100,000 men in Germany were treated as inpatients for an acute heart attack, compared to less than half of women (around 170 out of 100,000 women). High blood pressure, diabetes mellitus and smoking are among the most important risk factors for cardiovascular disease. Other risk factors that can be influenced for the development of cardiovascular diseases are lipometabolic disorders, lack of physical activity and being very overweight.
The online lecture and live discussion "Men's Heart: What should you pay attention to?" will therefore take place on Wednesday, November 24, from 10.30 am to 12.00 pm. The speaker is Priv. Doz. Gitsios Gitsioudis, Head Physician at the Clinic for Internal Medicine with a focus on Cardiology, Angiology and Internal Intensive Care Medicine at the Karl-Olga Hospital in Stuttgart. He will show how heart health can be positively influenced.
The event is aimed at all interested parties, men and women and people with other gender identities.
