Dementia Week: Event for volunteer caregivers - registration deadline on September 6

Volunteering for people with dementia has many positive aspects: It relieves the burden on carers, provides variety for those suffering from the disease and also benefits those who get involved. The lecture "Humor hilft- Beziehungspflege mit Herz, Hirn & Humor" (Humor helps - nurturing relationships with heart, brain and humor) on 14 September in the conference area of the Ludwigsburg district hall is intended as a thank you to the volunteers.

A large crowd of enthusiastic people is gathered in a hall, all raising their hands and smiling. In the foreground, a man with a joyful expression is posing for the photo, adding to the lively atmosphere of the event.

The families' everyday lives are enriched by the encounters with the volunteers, by listening to them, taking time for their personal needs, doing activities together, but also by laughing together or enduring difficult moments. Community becomes tangible in these moments and, above all, the feeling of belonging is created.

The openness, trust and appreciation shown to the volunteers for their work, as well as the shared experiences, also have a positive effect on the lives of the volunteers, who actively help to shape society through their work.

And yet this commitment is not a matter of course or always easy. It requires a willingness to invest time, energy and passion and to set out to learn new things, deal with challenges and undergo further training in order to make valuable encounters possible time and time again.

It is therefore important to say thank you once again, because without the many volunteers, the everyday lives of many people with dementia and their relatives would look very different.

All volunteers in the district of Ludwigsburg are cordially invited to an inspiring afternoon at the Kreishaus, where the focus will be on humor: Felix Gaudo is a clown, presenter and humor expert from Eckart von Hirschhausen's HUMOR HILFT HEILEN foundation. He lets the volunteers experience how humor works in care and volunteering. Humor can help teams to understand each other better, can reduce pressure, improve communication with each other and also help to deal better with grief and suffering. Humor is the most natural remedy for stress. Humor makes you strong, relaxed and likeable and forms the basis for appreciative communication. Afterwards, there will be an opportunity to talk to each other.

Registration is required by Friday, September 6, 2019, at the specialist advice service for the elderly, Tel. 07141 144-45106, or by email to: altenhilfe[at]landkreis-ludwigsburg.de
