Special attention is being paid to the safety of students who use the bus stops near the bridge. The bus stops, where many students get off, were relocated today, Wednesday, September 30, 2026, from Ottmarsheimer Straße to Gemmrigheimer Straße. By moving the stops to Gemmrigheimer Straße, the goal is to make crossing the street clearer and safer for students.
In addition, the existing speed limit in the area of the bridge will be extended beyond the intersection with Gemmrigheimer Straße.
To ensure safe crossing of Hessigheimer Straße, a pedestrian traffic light system will also be installed on Thursday, October 1, 2026. This will allow pedestrians to cross the street safely.
Measures to Ensure Compliance with the Height Restriction
Signage indicating the existing height restriction will also be further reinforced. “Signposts” have been installed on both sides of the bridge to alert drivers to the permissible clearance height. To prevent road users from driving around this structure on the eastern side (Neusatz), speed bumps will also be installed on the roadway in the coming days.
Both “gallows” are also scheduled to be equipped with flashing warning lights in the near future. The already extensive signage regarding height and weight restrictions will also be supplemented. The large information signs will additionally be equipped with yellow flashing lights.

On September 25, 2026, following extensive inspections, the Neckar Bridge was reopened to vehicles with a gross vehicle weight rating of less than 2.8 metric tons.
To protect the bridge from damage caused by larger vehicles, a height limit of 2.30 meters has been in effect since then. This is intended to ensure that only motor vehicles weighing less than 2.8 metric tons cross the bridge. Vehicles with a gross vehicle weight of 2.8 metric tons or more are generally taller than 2.30 meters.
