Weapons authority warns against careless data transfer and faked storage checks

Caution, data theft: In the Ludwigsburg district, three cases have come to light in the past year in which supposedly interested gun buyers have obtained sensitive data from gun sellers via online portals - without having any intention of buying.

Name of the gun owner, home address, type of weapon, contact details: The alleged gun buyers have already been able to obtain this data in three cases.

It cannot be ruled out that these unknown persons are trying to obtain the personal data in order to misuse it.

The Ludwigsburg District Office would therefore like to point out the following:

Personal data should always be treated sensitively. Only when the seller/buyer has convinced himself of the existence and the intention of a purchase/sale of the buyer or seller should personal data be disclosed (e.g. by checking the data provided with the responsible firearms authority).

Announced or unannounced weapons storage checks are carried out exclusively by employees of the weapons authority of the Ludwigsburg District Office. Our employees always identify themselves. The ID card contains the name, photograph and the coat of arms of the Ludwigsburg district.

Warning against fraudulent purchases and sales of weapons

The weapons authority of the Ludwigsburg district office therefore issues an urgent warning: In the case of weapons storage checks, those affected should always ask to see the service ID cards before allowing strangers access to the premises.

Anyone who has doubts about the authenticity of the documents is urgently requested to contact the responsible weapons authority at waffenbehoerde[at]landkreis-ludwigsburg.de or the responsible police station.
