Many hands for more sustainability

The district of Ludwigsburg has awarded the 2020 Climate Protection Prize to Stromberg-Gymnasium in Vaihingen an der Enz. Innovative ideas were used to better anchor the topic of "sustainability" in everyday school life.

A group of seven people stands outdoors in a grassy area, surrounded by trees. They are posing together, with one person holding a document in the front. The group includes a mix of genders and attire, with some in casual clothing and others in business attire.

The photo of the award presentation (photo credits: Ludwigsburg District Office) to Stromberg-Gymnasium shows the following people (from left to right): Theresa Lingner (student at Stromberg-Gymnasium) Julia Neuhäuser (climate protection manager of the Ludwigsburg district), Eva Müller (student at Stromberg-Gymnasium), Inge Günsel (Ludwigsburg district office, climate protection), Natascha Conradt (teacher at Stromberg-Gymnasium) Dr. Christian Sußner (head of department for environment, technology and construction at the district office), Dominik Schmolck (teacher at Stromberg-Gymnasium).

The Ludwigsburg district climate protection prize is awarded for special ideas, concepts and measures in the areas of climate protection, sustainability, CO2 and energy saving, mobility and resource efficiency as well as successfully planned educational measures, action weeks with climate protection-relevant topics or climate partnerships.

This year, Stromberg-Gymnasium in Vaihingen an der Enz was particularly impressive with the planning and implementation of project days on the topic of "Sustainability - more than YOU think?". For four days, the Stromberg-Gymnasium's timetable did not focus on math or German, but - as part of the project days - on sustainability. In a total of 36 projects, the pupils gained an impression of the wide range of this topic. The diverse projects ranged from the classic sustainability topics of mobility and nutrition to less obvious areas such as the sustainable use of one's own body or sustainable learning methods. However, the topic is also present in the school outside of the project days through various working groups.

The Mörike-Gymnasium Ludwigsburg was also a winner. It was already honored with the Climate Protection Award in 2018 and has now applied again with the "#machhaltigkeit" project. A new school strategy was developed over several years. Sustainability is the theme of numerous activities throughout the school year and is integrated directly into the pupils' everyday lives, be it in the classroom, in the environmental club, at the cell phone collection point or clothes recycling offers.

The climate protection prize of the Ludwigsburg district is endowed with a total of 3,000 euros. The prize has already been awarded to Stromberg-Gymnasium. The award ceremony for the Mörike-Gymnasium will be held in the new school year.

The Ludwigsburg district's climate team has been strengthened once again by Julia Neuhäuser, who started as the new climate protection manager in mid-July.
