Hands-On City History at the Hornmoldhaus
Located in the heart of Bietigheim-Bissingen’s historic old town, the Hornmoldhaus City Museum invites visitors on an exciting journey through several centuries of city history. Historic rooms, digital stations, VR experiences, and an escape room blend tradition with modernity, bringing history to life—especially for families and children.
Museum Director Dr. Catharina Raible reveals her personal favorite spot in the museum: “Right now, my personal favorite is the merchant’s shop in the newly designed spaces in the summer house.” It is especially the mix of historical objects and modern educational formats that makes the museum unique: “We have a lot of interactive stations and also totally modern offerings, like the escape room or the VR headsets.”
Preserving Memory – The Sudeten German Heritage Museum in Bönnigheim
The Sudeten German Heritage Museum in Bönnigheim is dedicated to an important chapter of German history. Photographs, traditional costumes, maps, and personal documents tell the story of more than 800 years of German history in Bohemia, Moravia, and Silesia, as well as the flight and expulsion that followed World War II.
The visit is made particularly memorable by the personal recollections of Horst Hippmann, chairman of the Sudeten German Association and a witness to those events himself. The exhibition highlights how closely regional history and personal destinies are intertwined—and how important the culture of remembrance remains to this day.
A Piece of Sudeten German History in Bietigheim-Bissingen
The Zuckmantler Heimatstube in Bietigheim-Bissingen preserves the history of the former Sudeten German town of Zuckmantel, now Zlaté Hory in the Czech Republic. Everyday objects, traditional costumes, photographs, and documents offer insights into the region’s past way of life and culture.
For Dr. Catharina Raible, a special exhibit is an old bicycle from Zuckmantel: “It’s an important testament to the history of that place.” For her, the local history museum demonstrates above all “how important international understanding is and how much we have in common.”
Daily Life Around 1900 – A Journey Through Time in Neckarrems
What was life like in the countryside back then? The Remser Heimatstube in Remseck-Neckarrems brings this to life in a vivid way. Living rooms, kitchens, craft tools, and personal mementos convey an authentic impression of everyday life between 1880 and 1960.
Museum tours here come to life through personal stories and anecdotes from Neckarrems. For Gerlinde Edinger and Günther Glock, the museum’s greatest treasure lies in “the fact that it depicts the living conditions of the lower middle class and small farmers.” The goal is to “preserve and nurture the memory of Neckarrems’ history.”
