This project will take around ten years and is essential to protect the environment and, above all, the groundwater. During this time, there will be felling and construction work on the landfill site, which will be divided into various construction phases. "We are working hard to keep the impact on nature, animals and the surrounding residents as low as possible," assured AVL Managing Director Tilman Hepperle during an on-site inspection with District Administrator Dietmar Allgaier, Mayors Steffen Döttinger from Affalterbach and Marcus Kohler from Erdmannhausen, as well as Mayor Michael Ilk from the city of Ludwigsburg, members of the local councils, the Poppenweiler district committee and AVL supervisory board members.
Once the landfill has been restored, it will be completely greened again. In future, it will be freely accessible. "We will keep you up to date on the preparations for the renovation and the individual construction phases until a new, liveable green space is created at the AM LEMBERG landfill site," said Hepperle during the information tour.
From spring 2021, some sand lizards that have been living on the landfill site to be remediated will be relocated. They will find a new home on the top of the landfill, which is not part of the remediation work. This work will hardly be noticeable from the outside. The new habitat is larger than the area previously used and is therefore ideally suited as a new home for the sand lizards, according to experts. Only then will the actual renovation work begin, probably from fall 2021.
AVL has compiled information about the project on the website www.deponie-lemberg.de, e.g. a short information film and frequently asked questions and answers.
