For the town of Vaihingen/Enz, two bus stops and the traffic islands in the intersection area are being upgraded to make them handicapped accessible. Stadtwerke Vaihingen is carrying out work on the water network in the Goethestraße junction area at the same time as the construction work begins.
Traffic routing and restrictions during the construction work
The intersection of Bahnhofstraße/Nebenweg/Franckstraße will remain fully closed until August 27, with the exception of traffic coming from Kleinglattbach, which can continue to turn towards Bahnhofstraße (train station). Access to Nebenweg (in the direction of the school center) is no longer possible from the Lessingstraße junction into the residential area. In addition, from August 18, the closed section of the K1696 will be extended to the junction with Goethestraße. The adjacent residential area will remain accessible - a traffic light system via Goethestrasse will ensure that residents have access at all times.
From August 27, it will again be possible to drive from the new Bahnhofstrasse in the direction of Kleinglattbach. At the end of the summer vacation, the entire route will be fully accessible again. Only the bus stop at the fire station will still be under reconstruction.
Detour set up for local and non-local traffic
Detour will be signposted for motorized traffic. In town, traffic will be diverted via Steinbeisstraße. To facilitate the flow of traffic, a turning right of way will be set up at the junction and the traffic lights on the K1696/Steinbeisstraße will be switched off.
For traffic from outside the town, a supra-local detour will be signposted until August 27 via the L1125 to the "Perfekter Standort" industrial estate, then via the L1106 to Ensingen to the Horrheim bypass and from there via the K1692 to Kleinglattbach. In the opposite direction, traffic can travel via the Bahnhofstraße/Nebenweg/Franckstraße junction.
The bus stops at the intersection of Neue Bahnhofstraße cannot be used during the summer vacation. Passengers are asked to inform themselves about timetable changes, cancellations and bus stop relocations
K 1696 to be renovated in three sections
The work is divided into three construction phases. From August 4 to 27, the Bahnhofstraße/Nebenweg/Franckstraße intersection will be renovated and preparatory work will be carried out between the intersection and the Lessingstraße junction and at the bus stops. The traffic lights will also be replaced at the same time.
From August 18 until the end of the summer vacations, the construction site will be extended to the Goethestraße junction in the second construction phase and the K1696 outside the junction area, including the sidewalk, will be renovated. At the same time, the bus stop at the Vaihingen building yard will be rebuilt to make it handicapped accessible.
Finally, in the third construction phase, the bus stop at the fire station will be converted for disabled access over a period of two weeks from the end of the summer vacation.
Forward-looking planning: second construction phase of the overall K1696 renovation started
Close coordination between the district and the town of Vaihingen/Enz means that synergies can be exploited and the construction period can be organized efficiently. The construction costs for this second construction phase of the overall renovation amount to around 600,000 euros. Of this, the district of Ludwigsburg will bear just under 456,000 euros, the remainder will be borne by the town of Vaihingen/Enz. The replacement of the traffic lights is calculated at just under 200,000 euros and will be borne entirely by the district.
The Ludwigsburg District Office asks all residents and road users for their understanding for the resulting restrictions. The construction period was scheduled for the summer vacations due to the proximity to the school center in order to keep the impact as low as possible.
This construction project is the second construction phase of the overall renovation of the K1696; the section from Hans-Krieg-Straße to Stuttgarter Straße was already renovated in 2024. Finally, the section from Goethestraße to Hans-Krieg-Straße is to be renovated in 2026.
