In the presence of representatives from the municipality of Gemmrigheim and the town of Besigheim, District Administrator Dietmar Allgaier opened the cycle and service road. The fact that the new cycle link could be opened in time for the start of the summer vacations was thanks to the short construction time of just six weeks. This means that the cycle path - in addition to its actual purpose for school transport between the municipalities - can be used for the increasingly popular cycle tourism in the summer. "Cycling is experiencing a new upswing - partly due to corona," said Dietmar Allgaier. In the current STADTRADELN campaign, the district and 15 municipalities in the district have once again increased their efforts and were able to collect around 1.5 million kilometers by bike in three weeks.
Together with Mayor Dr. Jörg Frauhammer of Gemmrigheim and Helmut Fischer, second deputy mayor of Besigheim, the district administrator cut the symbolic ribbon and opened the cycle path. The construction company Lukas Gläser and site manager Lortrud Oberländer from the Ludwigsburg district office are not only to thank for the short construction time, but also for the fact that the budget of 68,000,000 euros set by the district council's environment and technology committee was adhered to. For the approximately 2.1 kilometer long cycle and service road, there was a subsidy of 340000 euros (50 percent) in accordance with the State Municipal Financing Act He was aware, the district administrator continued, that the connection via the Neckar bridge was not yet satisfactory. Nevertheless, the district council had already voted in favor of completing the cycle path on the district road, i.e. the part for which the district is responsible. Now it is up to the regional council to ensure further improvements on the Neckar bridge.
