The first advisory board meeting of the "Neckarschleifen Regional Development" association took place recently. Nine small projects aimed at preserving the terraced vineyard slopes can look forward to receiving funding.
The non-profit association "Neckarschleifen Regional Development", founded in November 2020, supports small projects that serve to preserve steep-slope viticulture and the cultural wine landscape. 90 percent of the funding comes from the regional budget. The remaining ten percent is financed by the eleven member municipalities. The regional budget for small projects is an additional funding pot designated at federal level to strengthen rural areas.
The nine projects receiving funding in the first round for 2021 range from Freiberg am Neckar to Lauffen am Neckar. For example, funding is being provided for the renovation of dry stone walls and a historic ice cellar as well as the purchase of small mobile wine vending carts. There are also unusual projects, such as a project vineyard that gives children and young people a very practical understanding of viticulture.
The chairman of the association, Mayor Dr. Jörg Frauhammer from Gemmrigheim, is delighted with the first funded projects. "The first call for projects has already shown that there is a need. However, we have not yet exhausted the entire funding amount. There will therefore be a second call for projects and we hope to see more great projects," Frauhammer concludes.
The topics are:
- Steep-slope viticulture as cultural heritage and image carrier of the region: Profiling steep-slope wines
- Developing the Neckarschleifen wine and cultural landscape as an experience area and tourist destination
- Vineyard terraces with a new future - innovative uses and prospects for fallow steep slopes
- Cultural heritage as a community task - creating awareness and finding partners
Municipalities, churches, companies, clubs, associations and natural persons and partnerships (private individuals, GbR, KG, farmers) can apply. The investment must be implemented within the boundaries of these municipalities: Benningen, Besigheim, Bönnigheim, Freiberg, Gemmrigheim, Hessigheim, Ingersheim, Kirchheim, Lauffen,
Mundelsheim and Walheim.
A total of 86,000 euros in funding is still available for 2021. The project must still be implemented in 2021 with a net amount of between 2,500 euros and 20,000 euros and can be funded with a significant contribution of 80 percent. The project ideas will be evaluated for selection according to a list of criteria. The selection decision is expected to take place at the beginning of June 2021.
Applications must be submitted to the office of the Neckarschleifen Regional Development Association at the Ludwigsburg District Office, Hindenburgstr. 40, 71638 Ludwigsburg by May 3, 2021.
