New volunteers wanted

Since 2014, people with the onset of dementia have had the opportunity to talk to a volunteer on a regular basis and discuss their personal situation through the support group. The support group is now looking for reinforcements and is looking forward to welcoming new volunteers.

A group of seven people stands together outdoors near a banner. The banner features an image of an older man and text in German promoting support for individuals diagnosed with dementia, emphasizing the importance of staying involved and connected after diagnosis.

The aim of the support group is to counteract the social withdrawal of people with dementia in the early stages. The opportunity to talk has proven to be helpful here. Meeting at eye level and the volunteers' knowledge of dementia-related changes gives those affected a sense of security and creates an atmosphere of trust. Whether on a walk together or over a cup of coffee - the focus is on being together and is experienced as very enriching by both sides.

The volunteers of the support group meet regularly at the Ludwigsburg district office to exchange ideas and are also present at events in the district with information stands. On Tuesday, October 4 and 11, those interested in joining the group can take part in a two-part training course.

The following topics are on the program:

  • The onset of dementia - challenges and opportunities
  • Conversation as support - the basics of communication
  • Getting into conversation - practical exercises
  • Networking
  • Important information to get started

The training courses take place from 16:30 to 19:00 in the Ludwigsburg District Office, conference area, Hindenburgstr. 40.

Registrations are now possible at the Unterstützerkreis für Menschen mit Demenz, Landkreis Ludwigsburg, phone 07141 144-69971, email: unterstuetzerkreis@landkreis-ludwigsburg.de.
