"You are a role model. You show us that sport not only trains the body, but also opens the heart. You are a bridge builder, a motivator and a rock in the surf of our regional sports world." With these words, District Administrator Dietmar Allgaier summarized Uwe Schober's commitment. He presented the Cross of Merit on Ribbon and held the laudatory speech for the Besigheim native, who has been involved in the Besigheim Sports Association since 1975, including as children's, youth and head gymnastics coach. Uwe Schober has headed the gymnastics department since 1993 and has been Chairman of the entire sports association since 2010.
Commitment beyond the gym
Uwe Schober, who worked as a secondary school teacher until his retirement in 2024, is also involved in voluntary work beyond the club. For example, he has initiated and organized gymnastics festivals, congresses, children's carnivals, camps, the "Besigheim spielt" campaign and the "Panikstaffel" show group. From 1977 to 2002 - with one year's interruption - he also managed the AWO Besigheim town recreation program.
Volunteering to tackle social issues
Uwe Schober used his voluntary work to address and tackle socially relevant issues, said the District Administrator in his speech. For example, he is committed to the protection of children and young people and to improving environmental awareness in clubs. He also shows how much he cares about the younger generation through the "Förderverein Kindersport" (children's sports support association), which he has promoted, and the "Schule gymnt" (school gymnastics) and "Kinder in Bewegung" (children on the move) projects. The sports association was awarded the Lotto Sports Youth Sponsorship Prize for the latter project in 2016 and 2018.
Community through sport
Through his commitment, Uwe Schober not only gets people moving, but as District Administrator Allgaier went on to emphasize: "It's people like you who hold our society together and shape it in a positive way."
