District offers new Schwer-in-Ordnung sleeves for the severely disabled ID card: Inclusive Ludwigsburg district advisory board welcomes free distribution

Since this year, the district of Ludwigsburg has been offering an ID card cover with the imprint "Schwer-in-Ordnung-Ausweis" free of charge for people with disabilities who have a severely disabled ID card in the form of a credit card. The Ludwigsburg Inclusive District Advisory Council, the district's representative body for people with disabilities, had previously campaigned for this ID card cover to be made available to all people with a corresponding ID card if they so wished.

A man stands between two women in wheelchairs, all engaging in conversation. The woman on the left has blonde hair and smiles while holding a cup. The woman on the right, with short hair, is also smiling and has a tray in front of her. The setting is indoors with wooden accents.

From left: Jutta Grolik, Chairwoman of the Ludwigsburg Inclusive District Advisory Board, Thomas Kaluza, Secretary of the Ludwigsburg Inclusive District Advisory Board, and Susanne Zigelli, also Chairwoman of the Ludwigsburg Inclusive District Advisory Board, with the new ID card covers.

"We are very happy to support this wish," says Heiner Pfrommer, Head of Social Affairs. With the ID card cover, the word "Schwerbehindertenausweis" is covered by the term "Schwer-in-Ordnung-Ausweis", explain the two chairs of the advisory board, Jutta Grolik and Susanne Zigelli.

The background: The idea for such a cover came from a 14-year-old schoolgirl in Pinneberg, Holstein, in 2017. In an issue of the magazine "KIDS Aktuell", she suggested renaming the severely disabled ID card as the "Schwer-in-Ordnung-Ausweis". Many people with disabilities have long criticized the term "severely disabled pass" as derogatory.

In the meantime, well over 600 copies of the ID cards have been requested by schools, workshops and other facilities for people with disabilities. "A complete success!" says Secretary Thomas Kaluza happily.

Anyone who would like one of these ID card covers can obtain them free of charge from the care office at the Ludwigsburg district office.
