Wolfgang Kern, who was born in Schwenningen am Neckar and has lived in Ludwigsburg for almost 50 years, is a versatile artist. This year he celebrates his 80th birthday. His work focuses on visual communication tasks for companies, associations, cities and municipalities, public administration, clinics and church institutions. Kern also designed the Ludwigsburg district logo, the "district spiral".
A total of 115 pictures, collages and objects are currently on display on all levels of the Kreishaus. The exhibition is as varied as Kern's oeuvre and a retrospective of his work. A cross-section of his work presents pictures on canvas and paper, panels as well as three-dimensional objects and sketchbooks.
Two books will be published in a double volume to coincide with the exhibition: while KERN Bilder is dedicated to his pictorial work, KERN Design contains works in the field of graphic design. The artist is equally familiar with both, as he founded an advertising agency almost 40 years ago.
Since many things had to be rethought and reinvented in times of Corona, "Kunst im Kreishaus" is also breaking new ground. This year, "Kunst im Kreishaus" is celebrating its 50th anniversary. To kick off the anniversary year, new, virtual paths are being taken. As the Kreishaus is currently closed to visitors and no vernissage is possible due to coronavirus restrictions, this time we are providing virtual access to the exhibition. A film has been made showing the artist in his studio and setting up the exhibition in the Kreishaus. A tour of the exhibition can also be seen. In addition to Wolfgang Kern, cultural journalist Dietholf Zerweck also has his say with an introduction on the subject. In addition, the greeting from District Administrator Dietmar Allgaier was also filmed. All of this can be found on the Internet at www.schiller-vhs.de/kunstimkreishaus from February 25, 7 p.m., the date of the originally planned vernissage. The films will be available online until March 19.
Interested parties can also find out whether the planned tours with the artist on March 11 and 18 are possible in small groups by clicking on the link above. The exhibition itself runs in the district hall, Hindenburgstraße 40, until March 19. The district's homepage at www.landkreis-ludwigsburg.de provides information on whether the Kreishaus is open at the time of the desired visit.
