From September 15: Section of the K 1696 reopened to traffic, right turn lane from Kleinglattbach towards the train station as well as cycle path and footpath fully closed

The K 1696 (Franckstraße) between the Neue Bahnhofstraße/Nebenweg/Franckstraße junction and the Goethestraße/Franckstraße junction will be reopened to traffic in time for the start of the school year on Monday, September 15, 2025. The junction itself and the bus stop at the civil engineering office can also be used again. With the conversion of the bus stop at the fire station to make it handicapped accessible, the third construction phase in the new Bahnhofstraße in the junction area of the K 1696 will follow from September 15. This last construction phase is expected to last until around October 2.

From September 15, the right-hand turning lane coming from Kleinglattbach in the direction of Vaihingen station as well as the cycle path and footpath along the K 1696 will have to be fully closed in this area. A national detour has been signposted for HGV traffic via the K 1682 to Horrheim, then via the L 1106 to Ensingen and the "Perfekter Standort" inter-municipal industrial estate and from there via the L 1125 to the B 10. In the opposite direction, HGV traffic can drive via the Bahnhofstraße/Nebenweg/Franckstraße junction. Car traffic can go straight on via the K 1696 and Steinbeisstraße to the station. The District Office asks road users and residents for their understanding for the obstructions and restrictions.

Disabled-accessible bus stop conversion at fire station and guidance facilities for the blind

The section from Hans-Krieg-Straße to Stuttgarter Straße was already renovated in 2024. In the second construction phase currently underway, the road builders from the district administration office have laid a 20-centimetre-thick new asphalt package over the entire section and completely renewed the traffic lights at the junction. The town of Vaihingen/Enz has also rebuilt a bus stop and all traffic islands in the junction area to make them handicapped accessible. Part of the sidewalk along Franckstrasse was also renewed. In the third phase, in addition to the conversion of the bus stop at the fire station to make it suitable for the disabled, the guiding devices for the blind will be glued to the asphalt at both bus stops and in the intersection area.

The costs for this year's construction phase amount to around 600,000 euros. The district is paying around 76 percent of this, with the town of Vaihingen covering the rest. The costs of replacing the traffic lights, which amounted to 200,000 euros, were borne by the district alone.
