Workshop on “Child Protection in Clubs”
The symposium will focus on the topic of “Perpetrator Strategies.”
Sexual violence does not happen by chance. Perpetrators act deliberately and use strategic approaches to gain the trust of children, adolescents, and those around them, to gradually cross boundaries, and to keep their actions secret. Understanding these strategies enables people to identify risks early on and better protect children and adolescents.
The symposium provides practical knowledge and builds the confidence of volunteers in taking action. Protection plans and prevention measures are effective tools against sexual violence. They are particularly effective when everyone who works with children and adolescents has a solid understanding of perpetrator strategies.
Drawing on the experiences of people who have experienced sexual violence during their childhood, the workshop addresses the following questions, among others:
- Who is affected by sexual violence?
- What conditions contribute to sexual violence against children and adolescents?
- What strategies do perpetrators use to violate boundaries and keep sexual violence secret?
- What obstacles must perpetrators overcome in order to commit their acts?
- How do they circumvent the natural defense mechanisms of children and adolescents, as well as the protective measures put in place by organizations?
- What are the implications for organizations and their safety policies?
In addition to expert presentations, the symposium offers an opportunity for discussion and networking. Information booths run by various specialized agencies invite attendees to learn about support and counseling services and to take away ideas for their own club work.
