"The light rail system is indispensable if we want to achieve a turnaround in transportation and take climate protection seriously. Together with my dedicated team, I am highly motivated to get the railroad on the rails as quickly as possible," says the new Managing Director Ilk. "I am delighted that we have found a very suitable Managing Director in Michael Ilk, who is also already familiar with the project. I am sure that, together with the light rail team, he will make decisive progress with this project, which is essential for the mobility transition in the district of Ludwigsburg," says District Administrator and Zweckverband Chairman Dietmar Allgaier.
Michael Ilk studied civil engineering, specializing in structural engineering, at the University of Stuttgart. After completing his legal clerkship in the higher civil engineering administrative service and the major state examination, he began his professional career in 1992 at the civil engineering office of the state capital Stuttgart and, after two years as a personal assistant to the technical advisor in the town hall, was head of the central/northern construction department there from 2003 to 2010. From 2011 to 2013, he worked as a building officer for the city of Bamberg before serving as mayor of the city of Ludwigsburg from 2013 to 2021. Ilk has been working as a freelance business mediator since the end of 2021 and headed the Urban Development and Sustainability department in Sachsenheim on a part-time basis from 2022 to mid-February 2025. Ilk has also been a district councillor for the Free Voters in the Ludwigsburg district council since 2019.
