For the "Week of Sight": Series of events in the district from October 15 to November 16 - How to keep a clear view in everyday life

The "Week of Sight" takes place in October. As part of this, the Württemberg Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired is planning a joint series of events entitled "Keeping an eye on everyday life" in cooperation with the Ludwigsburg district council's specialist advice service for the elderly. The events will take place on October 15 in Ludwigsburg, on November 4 in Marbach, on November 11 in Besigheim and on November 16 in Ditzingen.

People who have spent their lives with their sight and suffer vision loss in old age lose up to 85% of the information previously available to them. As a result, this affects their ability to act in almost all areas of life.

The series of events "Keeping a clear view in everyday life" is dedicated to possible solutions for maintaining an independent lifestyle in the home environment. The aim is also to raise awareness of the topic among family caregivers and voluntary and full-time support workers.

The self-help association BSV Württemberg e.V. is supported by "Aktion Mensch" as part of the five-year project "Initiative Sehen im Alter". The aim of the project is to maintain an independent lifestyle for people with late-onset blindness in their home environment. This requires broad information, sensitization of the environment of affected people and, in the best case, self-awareness of all supporters in order to be able to put themselves in the situation.

The events will take place in four selected locations in the district in order to reach the communities throughout the district. The kick-off event is on October 15 from 2:00 to 4:30 p.m. at the Ludwigsburg Care Support Center, Stuttgarter Straße 12/1, 71638 Ludwigsburg. The other events are on November 4, 2:00 to 4:30 p.m., in VHS Room 3, Strohgasse 7, 71672 Marbach, on November 11, 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., in the Paul Gerhard-Haus (Cyriakus-Saal), Schulweg 8, 74354 Besigheim, and on November 16, 2:00 to 4:30 p.m., in Treffpunkt Adler, Leonberger Straße 10, 71254 Ditzingen.

Registration is requested due to the limited number of participants. Contact and registration: Specialist advice for the elderly, Tel.: 07141 144 2463, Mail: altenhilfe[at]landkreis-ludwigsburg.de.

Since a joint symposium in 2016 and the founding of the 1st regional action alliance, there has been close and constructive cooperation between the Württemberg Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired and the district administration's specialist advice service for the elderly. It is important to the district to make a contribution with this series of events in order to develop the best possible framework conditions so that a high quality of life is possible in old age, even with visual impairment and blindness.
