Child day care week until May 18, 2025: Professional, flexible, individual and family-oriented

Child Day Care Week is promoting this form of childcare until May 18, 2025. Child day care offers a valuable and flexible form of care for children under the age of three - both for parents who are looking for suitable care and for people who want to work in the educational field.

What does a childminder do?
Early childhood education and pedagogy are central components of child day care.
Childminders accompany the children in their development. They plan educational activities, promote the children's education, enable them to make their own experiences and get to know the world. The children play together with other children in small groups and learn the basics of social interaction. In the family environment, children experience everyday education, which is a prerequisite for school education. The childminders are reliable caregivers for the children and contact persons for their parents.

What further training opportunities are there?
To be able to look after children in day care, a care permit from the youth welfare office is required. In addition to personal suitability, people interested in child day care must also present a certificate of good conduct and a health certificate and have suitable rooms for childcare. They must also complete 300 teaching units to qualify for this activity. The qualification is offered by the Competence Center for Child Daycare at the District Office, which also regularly holds information events for interested parties. If you would like to find out more in advance, you can find lots of information about the job and qualification at www.tageseltern-lb.de. Here you can also register for information events and take part online. The next information event for those interested in child day care is on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, from 6.30 to 7.30 pm.

How is childcare funded?

Childcare is subsidized with public funds. The funding per child and hour in the Ludwigsburg district is 7.50 euros. A childminder can look after up to five children at the same time. Pension and health insurance contributions are also subsidized. The children cared for are covered by accident and liability insurance through the district office. As a rule, childminders are self-employed in the district.

How does the application process work?
All new childminders complete a basic qualification of 300 teaching units, divided into two courses. Educational professionals only need to attend the first course with a total of 50 teaching units. Participation in the second course can already take place while working. In addition, a child emergency course with nine teaching units must be completed. If all the necessary requirements are met, the youth welfare office can issue a care permit for five years.

What are the advantages of child day care?

Child day care is professional, flexible, individual and informal. Professionalism is ensured by the fact that all childminders are qualified and undergo continuous further training. The childcare times depend on the individual needs of the parents and the services offered by the respective childminder. The main difference to daycare centers is the flexible arrangement of care times. In addition, the childminder only looks after up to five children and can therefore be more responsive to the needs and wishes of parents and children. Child day care is familiar and individual, as most day carers look after children at home.

What forms of child day care are available in the district?

Depending on the needs of the parents, there are three different forms of child day care in the district of Ludwigsburg: children's nests - this is child day care in a group in other suitable rooms -, classic child day care in the home of the child day care provider or nannies who look after the child in the parents' home.

How can you register your child?

Interested parents fill out a contact form and the staff at the Competence Center for Child Day Care will contact you as soon as they receive the form with suggestions for suitable day carers. The contact form can be found at https://www.tageseltern-lb.de/eltern/sie-suchen-eine-tagespflegeperson. The next information event for parents will take place on Thursday, May 15, 2025, from 5:00 to 6:00 pm. You can register for information events and take part online at www.tageseltern-lb.de.

Are new childminders needed?

The demand for childcare places is high - but there is a shortage of childminders in many places. To ensure that families in all parts of the district can find suitable childcare, the district authority's childcare competence center is dependent on new, committed people who want to look after children with heart, mind and a sense of responsibility.
