Important signal for the promotion of cycling

With the new RadSERVICE station at the train station, Asperg is setting an important example for the promotion of cycling. The station is one of nine repair stations sponsored by the district of Ludwigsburg. On Monday, April 26, District Administrator Dietmar Allgaier (right) and Mayor Christian Eiberger inaugurated the new service station.

Two men in business attire stand beside a bike-sharing station. They are smiling and holding tools, suggesting an inauguration or launch event. A bicycle is parked in the background, and the station has multiple bike slots. The setting appears to be outdoor, likely in an urban area.

Together with the RadKULTUR initiative of the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Transport, the district funded nine new RadSERVICE stations in its municipalities last year. 22 local authorities applied for this - in addition to Asperg, the municipalities of Besigheim, Freiberg am Neckar, Gerlingen, Kornwestheim, Oberstenfeld, Remseck am Neckar, Steinheim and Tamm were awarded the contract. Most of the stations have now been set up. In total, there are almost 30 of these freely accessible repair stations in the district of Ludwigsburg. Not all of them were financed by the district; some of them are financed by local authorities themselves or by citizens' groups.
District Administrator Dietmar Allgaier, who opened the station in Asperg on Monday together with Mayor Christian Eiberger, praised the town's commitment to promoting cycling mobility: "In addition to its practical benefits, the repair station is also a nice sign of the growing importance of cycling in Asperg and we are very pleased to be able to support this as a district."
The RadSERVICE station is just one element in the town's efforts to improve cycling. The conceptual basis for promoting cycling in Asperg will be the new cycle path concept. A digital kick-off event will take place on May 5. Other measures include the expansion of the bicycle parking facilities at the train station, electric bicycles at the building authority and the integrative bicycle repair workshop of the Diakonie "Rad und Tat", which has already been based in the center of Asperg for several years.
In addition, the city of Asperg is taking part in CITY CYCLING for the first time this year. "CITY CYCLING is a really great and motivating campaign for cyclists and those who want to become one," says Lisa Röthinger, Cycling Officer at the Ludwigsburg District Office. "We are delighted that Asperg is also taking part this year."
