When Doors Open: Graduation Ceremony at the Commercial Vocational School

The district-run Robert-Franck-Schule is celebrating the graduation of its commercial vocational school in the fields of freight forwarding, warehousing, office management, and transportation services—and despite the sweltering temperatures, the celebration here is in full swing: But 98 young people who have successfully completed their vocational training are also a very good reason to celebrate. Department head Sabine Schröder is presenting 15 awards for outstanding performance and 16 commendations for good performance. One graduate—Miro Klass from class W2KS1X—even finishes with a perfect GPA of 1.0.

For everyone receiving their diploma today, this day likely has many facets despite all the joy, as Principal Steffen Benz notes. The pride in what has been achieved is surely mixed here and there with a touch of wistfulness, perhaps even concern about what lies ahead. A typical phrase like “Now the future begins!” combines its promise with expectations and demands. But there’s one thing you can count on both during and after your school years: You’re never alone, and the contacts and connections you make at school will support and connect you—perhaps for a lifetime. With a twinkle in his eye, the principal shares a piece of wisdom from author Benedict Wells with the newly graduated professionals: “Friendships in school are like friendships in prison: you don’t know what they’re worth until you’re out in the real world.”
