Companies fit for the future with climate protection

Doing business in a climate-friendly way and thus becoming fit for the future are the most important goals of the KLIMAfit project.

At the kick-off event on 19 July 2021, the companies participating in the project were welcomed by Roland Schestag, Ministry for the Environment, Climate and Energy Baden-Württemberg, and Dr. Christian Sußner, Head of the Department for Environment, Technology and Construction at the District Office.

As one of three pilot projects in Baden-Württemberg, the climate protection project KLIMAfit is taking place in the district of Ludwigsburg under the auspices of the Ludwigsburg District Office. Initiated by the district of Ludwigsburg and funded by the Baden-Württemberg Ministry for the Environment, Climate and Energy Management, the project supports companies in corporate climate protection in cooperation with the consulting firm Arqum GmbH. Other cooperation partners are the city of Ludwigsburg and the Ludwigsburg district energy agency. With KLIMAfit, individual greenhouse gas balances are drawn up with the participating companies. Practical measures are then derived that can be used to protect the climate and save money at the same time.

Six companies from the Ludwigsburg district and one guest company were recruited for the project:

- Blühendes Barock Gartenschau Ludwigsburg GmbH, Ludwigsburg

- Hünersdorff GmbH, Ludwigsburg

- Karawane Reisen GmbH & Co. KG, Ludwigsburg

- Parker Hannifin Manufacturing Germany GmbH & Co. KG, Bietigheim-Bissingen

- Stadtwerke Ludwigsburg-Kornwestheim GmbH, Ludwigsburg

- Seitz GmbH, Ludwigsburg

- Psychotherapeutic Center Kitzberg-Klinik, Bad Mergentheim (as a guest)

The companies can expect a total of four workshops and three parallel individual consultation appointments. Following the kick-off event, the companies started the first workshop focusing on project organization and getting started with greenhouse gas balancing. Upon successful participation, the project participants will receive the "KLIMAfit company" award at the end of the project.

For department head Dr. Sußner, it is clear that climate protection and business go hand in hand. The commitment of those involved would not only be worthwhile for reasons of climate protection, but also because of the expected financial savings. Roland Schestag from the Baden-Württemberg Ministry for the Environment, Climate Protection and the Energy Sector emphasized that climate protection is right at the top of the Baden-Württemberg state agenda. He explained that KLIMAfit is one of several offers for companies and is still in the pilot phase. For companies that want to become climate-neutral in the medium and long term, climate protection agreements have been in place between the state and companies since October 2020.

At the kick-off event, the participating companies also had the opportunity to present themselves and their expectations of the project. The companies emphasized that they want to live up to their responsibility towards the environment and society. Today, employees and customers expect committed action in the area of climate protection. Through the climate protection project KLIMAfit, the companies will develop a sound data basis and a concrete roadmap with the next steps. The network offers input and the necessary ideas from outside.
