He reported that the district had created a short video together with its friends in Israel to commemorate the 76th Holocaust Memorial Day for the liberation of the Auschwitz concentration camp on January 27. "It was very important to us and our friends in the Upper Galilee not to let this day be forgotten and to commemorate it together," said District Administrator Allgaier. The video was also made available to the head teachers and teachers of the schools involved in the Israel exchange. They will also remain in contact with their Israeli friends and hope that personal encounters can take place again in the coming school year.
The district administrator went on to say that the Italian friends in Bergamo had become even closer over the past year due to the coronavirus crisis. "In the most difficult times, we were in contact with each other and supported each other," said Allgaier. After the visit to Bergamo last fall, they developed an idea together on how to work together on the topic of coronavirus, among other things. This is how they came across the globally active French-based organization "Missions Publiques". It primarily supports citizens' councils, but also other clients such as universities and ministries. The organization aims to establish a dialogue between citizens and decision-makers and support them in developing a wide range of topics. The district and the city of Ludwigsburg, together with their partners Bergamo in Italy, Mulhouse (twin city of Bergamo) and Montbéliard (twin city of Ludwigsburg) in France, are planning to convene a trilateral citizens' council to work on joint topics. One of the main topics will be the corona crisis and all its consequences, the district administrator announced. The deliberations on the project are currently still in the very early stages.
Unfortunately, the youth nature conservation camp in Pest County in Hungary could not take place this year either due to the pandemic, Allgaier noted. 2020 was the 20th anniversary of the friendship with Hungary, which could not be celebrated due to the pandemic. Consideration is now being given to possibly celebrating the anniversary at the end of the year - belatedly and on a smaller scale - during the Spätlingsmarkt. The district will keep the members of the committee up to date on this topic as well as on the status of the "Trilateral Citizens' Council" project.
